Assam Pu'er Tea is made at the Gauripur Tea Plantation in Golaghat, Assam. The plantation is owned by Aparaj Saikia, who took the initiative to produce this unique variety of tea commercially for the first time in India.
The tea leaves go through a microbial fermentation process after they have been dried and rolled, causing the leaves to darken and change flavour. This process allows the flavour of the tea to develop, just like older wines.
The tea is compressed into a cake shape, which allows it to be stored for long periods of time without losing its flavor. The tea offers a harmonious blend of flavours, with subtle smoky notes reminiscent of wood-smoke.
